Modi Sarkaar karegi chamatkaar?

Finally everything has settled in. All the overzealous campaign, the largest ever elections, the euphoria of result and The Man has taken his rightful place. Now the real challenge starts.
People expect him to do wonders for the country. And why shouldn`t they? They voted him on the prospects of development which he pitched forward in every speech. They campaigned for him, projected a no. of versions of abki baar modi sarkaar. They rose above the communal mindset, overcame the divide made by pseudo-secular forces. It will not be wrong to say that this PM has sworn in with an overload of expectations. This is not an open letter to Mr. Modi about what the people of India expect from him. I have no doubt in his ability. This article is to the people.
Many think that he has a magic wand which will make everything right. But the magic lies within us. It is not the time to just sit back and watch the show. It is not the the time to say that we have done our job now it`s your turn. It is the time to rise. Rise above all the hindrances which have affected the country till now. Do your bit for the nation.
Keep your city clean. Plant trees. Follow the traffic rules. Don`t give/take bribes. Report corrupt practices. Do your work honestly. Don`t waste water/electricity/petrol. Buy Indian goods. Stop caste based/ gender based discrimination. Make women feel safe. There are endless ways one can contribute to the nation`s development. If you want to support your leader don`t just restrict it to shouting his slogans. Let your work reflect your support. One man cannot bring all the change you want. Be a part of the change. I think then we`ll see the chamatkaar one expects him to do and the one we have voted for.

Woes of Working in a Government Hospital

Today, I completed one year of residency in a Govt. setup, unfortunately.I should have been celebrating but thought first to put things I have learnt in this period into words. It has been a kind of eye opener into the real world of health care in India. What I`m going to write is nothing new, people who are working in similar environment will be very well aware of these. This may be helpful for friends, juniors who are gonna start their specialty career in a Govt. hospital and people associated with healthcare. Sad but true facts of a Govt. setup are :-
  1. You can not get your work done effectively in any way possible. Requesting with folded hands or shouting your larynx out, nothing will work. You just have to do it yourself.
  2. Government does not care about poor people. They pretend they do. Opening free hospitals, starting new schemes, free medicine shops is not the only answer. There is no system in place to monitor and evaluate their functioning. No wonder in spite of so many programs, India still lags behind in all the health indices.
  3. Many health professionals have forgotten that their small decisions affect people`s lives in a big way. They fill them with their greed, arrogance and ego. Hippocratic oath has been reduced just to a Greek fable. I shall hope and try not to become one of them
  4. Somehow people have managed to turn the simple business of treating the sick, saving lives into a complex process with lots of loopholes.
  5. One last thing, you do not have any right to expect things to change, to complain about the system if you don`t hold an authoritative position. It will all be useless.
The list can go on but I will stop here. I don`t want to sound like a wife whining about her husband.
I will end with a positive note. Yes, the conditions are bad but could have been worse. We can hope that things will change in future for better. We as upcoming generation of specialists, administrators can strive to work for the cause. Hope, after all that is the only thing under our control.

Who Made The Justice BLIND?

Lady justice or Justitia has been always depicted blindfolded. As kids we were taught that it symbolizes the objectivity or the impartiality with which justice is imparted in a case.  Is it really so?

Whatever goes around my world, now I think that may be the Goddess of Justice was made blind to prevent her from seeing the use(misuse) of her powers by the powerful and the rich, To prevent her from seeing how the poor and  "common man" get oppressed,  how the people spend their lifetime seeking justice and most of them die without it, how they pray for justice but get only harassment,  how her weapon( the law) is twisted to favor some, all in the name of justice. To prevent her from seeing who all are involved in this and who cheats whom.
All of this leads to just one thing- people losing faith in the justice. Going to the court and expecting fast result has become a joke of modern times.
But is the Goddess watching all this? No, because some of us have made her blind

Do Not Sit on your wallet

Do Not Sit On Your Wallet

Most of us have the habit of keeping wallets in the hip pocket and not removing it while sitting. In a long term this is going to cause spine problems like backpain, nerve compression, pain and tingling sensation over the thigh and leg.
The reason is, as u can interpret from the figure, sitting on something in your pocket tilts the pelvis slightly and to maintain center posture and to support the head, your spine tilts in the opposite direction. The nerves come out from the sides of the spine. So this flexion (tilt) will compress the nerves and cause the above mentioned problems.
So guys keep this fact in mind before you sit on your wallet next time. And please educate others too.

The First One

Finally, I step into the world of blog. This had been in my mind for quite a while. Starting with etymology. "Nomadic activity" which reflects the state of my mind. It goes to all the places, so I decided to put it to good use. I may write about any field but more concentrated on health, medicine(obviously), sports, politics, social. Like this one, my posts will usually be short :).
